Currently, the ATO holds unclaimed money for around 5.38 million accounts with a total value of $3.75 billion as at 30 June, 2017.
The ATO is implementing a number of strategies aimed at reuniting individuals with their lost and unclaimed super.
From 5 April the ATO will be sending out emails to over 80,000 individuals to advise them that the ATO holds unclaimed super money (USM) on their behalf. The email will be followed up by 20,000 letters and SMS on 16 April.
The USM can be claimed by transferring it to a preferred super account. The easiest way is to do it via your myGov account which is linked to the ATO online services. If you don’t have a myGov account then you will be asked to set one up.
